Day 11 - July 2 - Union City TN to Paducah KY - the heat continues

Weather - same as the last few days.  Already 85F (30C) at 8am with over 90% humidity.  The heat index again reached 110F (43C) later in the afternoon.  The wind was light, mostly from the west though a thunderstorm passed by later in the day around 7:30pm with very strong S wind and very loud thunder.

Distance 63.6miles (103kms)

Average Moving Speed: 13.0mph (21kph) in 4hrs 20 mins of riding

Calories Expended: 3663

Elevation Gained: 2133 feet (650meters)

Shvitz Index: 9.0 (a bit lower than the last few days as I took it easy and it was a short day)

I managed to get on the road by 8:15 and decided to take the shortest route to Paducah KY, even though it was partly on main roads.  The route was relatively flat but there were some significant climbs, a few up to 9%.

Much of the route was straight north on Hwy 309, a great road for riding with a great surface and very little traffic.  I was in Paducah and into air conditioning by 2pm.

I crossed into Kentucky somewhere in the small town of Fulton but I did not see a "Welcome to Kentucky" sign.  (There might have been one but I missed it due to the sweat salt in my eyes)

There was not much to see on the route -mostly exurban homes with giant lawns. A few dogs put on performative half-hearted chases so I could easily outpace them/

Towards the end of the ride,I came across this old post office in small town of Melber which had no retail activity that I could see.

Tomorrow I will cross the Ohio River and leave the South.  It will be a long ride from the far south to the far north of Illinois over many days and there would be a lot of scenery to photograph.
